Washington, D.C. joined a number of jurisdictions with a new sports betting law on the books in December 2018. The District of Columbia Council approved legislation allowing its lottery to administer legal sports betting within the boundaries of the federal jurisdiction.
DC sports betting still has not launched as of March 2020. The lottery planned to start by April 2020 but decided to delay after the coronavirus pandemic shuttered all US sports.

The D.C. Council voted to authorize legalized sports betting in December, 2018. The Sports Wagering Lottery Amendment Act of 2018 became effective as of May 3, 2019.
The law was passed to allow both online and in-person sports betting inside the district, and it was expected to launch before the 2019 NFL regular season. However, that did not happen, and instead the rumors are for the summer of 2020.

Ted Leonsis, owner of the NBA’s Washington Wizards and NHL’s Washington Capitals, is on record saying there will be a domestic sportsbook inside Capital One Arena.
